You are Art: Recognizing Your Unique Beauty and Power

I’m a firm believer that we’re born with the desire to express ourselves. We all have creative tendencies that are as unique as we are. Sadly, too many people brush off this notion as frivolous or untrue.

“I can’t paint or write or dance or sing. I’m not a real artist.”

Ask yourself: what if simply being human and having this physical experience is an art form all its own?

You are painting the very canvas of your life with your words, your emotions and your unique perspective every single moment. How would knowing this change the way you view yourself and the world around you?

SEEKING MYSELF

For a long time I struggled with low self-confidence and imposter syndrome. I felt I couldn’t succeed because I wasn’t famous or at a certain skill level to be deemed “worthy.” I would often look in the mirror and be disgusted with what I saw, wishing I could be someone else.

These thoughts are connected because how I viewed myself seeped into how I viewed the very things I created.

Nothing I did ever felt good enough. I was caught in the cycle of believing that productivity and financial success were linked to self-worth.

When I no longer chose to subscribe to the concept that I must produce and sell x number of items to be successful I found myself on a path to discover who I am without those constraints.

I stepped into the unknown with the belief that I deserve better.

That my worth was not (and should not) be defined by how many sales I make or how many followers I have on social media.

This did not happen overnight and I’ve revisited the same lessons many times. I still struggle with feeling inadequate. I’m still learning and growing and that’s okay.

Every time I practiced seeing myself as art, however, something amazing happened. I started to blossom.

I started to treat myself with more kindness. I started to create for myself and not an audience. I engaged in ritual and danced barefoot in the moonlight, opening my heart and mind to something greater. I let myself make bad art. Really bad art. It was cathartic to let go of the need for perfection.

YOU CAN LET GO, TOO

Having awareness that something needs to change is the catalyst required to shift how you view yourself.

Take a deep breath in. Notice how your belly fills with air. The sound that it makes as it passes through your nostrils. Now exhale, releasing the need to do and simply be.

Allow yourself to become enchanted with your very presence. With the way your hair falls in your eyes. The way you hold your mug of tea in the morning. The way you walk, talk, laugh and cry (I assure you it’s all beautiful).

Put yourself under your own spell. Fall in love with what makes you uniquely you.

It takes great courage to move out of your comfort zone. The more you show up for yourself the more you will blossom. Anytime you choose to know yourself better and engage in divine conversation with your own soul is a powerful act. Remember that.

So I will say it again: YOU are art.

You are a powerful and creative being. You are worthy of being here on this planet. Your very existence is part of the beautiful web that connects us all.

I hope one day with a little curiosity and a leap of faith that you can see this, too. Maybe you already do. My advice? Keep leaning into it. This is where the magic can be found. 🌙
